Cracking of Anton Bauer Gold Mount battery plates on Steadicam equipment

21 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.

What the thread found

  • Multiple Gold Mount plates cracked within one year of use on an Artemis rig despite no reported impact damage.
  • Battery weight alone should not cause Gold Mount failures as the mounts are engineered to support battery loads.
  • Material composition of Gold Mount plates may have changed between production runs, potentially affecting durability.
  • Using larger batteries on a Super Post configuration can create vibration and movement that may stress the mounting plates.
  • Velcro applied to the mounting plates reduces battery play and eliminates vibration caused by mass-related movement.
  • Gold Mount plates are manufactured from Lexan plastic, the same material used in motorcycle helmets, and are designed for durability beyond battery lifespan.

Depends on

  • The cause of the cracking was not definitively determined; manufacturer investigation was requested but outcome unknown.
  • Experience is specific to one user's setup with a particular battery configuration on a Steadicam Artemis.
  • No confirmation whether all three plates failed from the same underlying cause or different issues.
  • The discussion occurred in 2005 and may not reflect current manufacturing standards or material quality.
