Suitable camera sleds for the Sony F3
15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The Sony F3 works well with both the Zephyr and Flyer sleds, with the Zephyr offering more headroom for accessories and lenses.
- The F3 is lightweight and benefits from adding weight through accessories, battery placement, and weight plates to improve stability and handling.
- Adding weight via batteries, matte boxes, and weight plates between the baseplate and dovetail helps distribute weight front to back and improves inertia on slower movements.
- Consider your future camera needs rather than limiting sled selection to only the F3, as heavier cameras may require different equipment later.
- The Sony F3 can be configured either as a light payload for smaller rigs or bulked up with accessories for use on larger rigs.
Depends on
- The F3 was noted as quite short and light, requiring modification to achieve desired handling characteristics.
- Discussion was limited to experience with Zephyr, Flyer, and MK-V Nexus rigs; other sled options were not extensively evaluated.
- Vest pricing information was based on speculation rather than confirmed retail prices.
