Routing multiple video feeds from a camera with limited outputs through a Zephyr sled
15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found
- A camera with only one HD-SDI output can be split using an external HD-SDI splitter or by routing the signal through a monitor loop-through output to production
- HDMI output can be converted to HD-SDI using a mini-converter and then split if needed
- The Zephyr sled top stage contains pre-installed wiring for future tally and power connector upgrades, though these wires may be hidden or tucked underneath
- Internal wiring in the top stage can be physically moved and rerouted, but care must be taken not to pinch wires when reassembling the plastic housing
- HD-SDI signals can be transmitted through standard SD video BNC connectors and cabling on short runs, though this is not officially supported
- Not all professional BNC cabling is equally capable of handling HD-SDI signals; cable construction, connector design, and total cable length all affect high-frequency signal attenuation
- Some rental house BNC cables may not meet HD-SDI bandwidth requirements despite using 75-ohm connectors
Depends on
- No confirmation from manufacturer about internal wiring capabilities beyond documented tally and power expansion
- HD-SDI transmission through SD-rated cabling is an unofficial workaround with unknown reliability limits
- Cable attenuation with non-HD-rated BNC can accumulate over longer runs and may fail in extended applications
- The experience of running HD-SDI through SD connectors came from a specific troubleshooting situation, not a planned use case
