Comparison of Luna and G-50 steadicam arms for first-time purchase decision
13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.
What the thread found
- Luna arm offers significantly higher weight capacity compared to G-50 models
- G-50X arm provides greater boom range and easier reconfiguration for different weight setups than Luna arm
- Higher load capacity in an arm becomes important as operator takes on larger projects
- Silver Spring arm represents a proven design based on 25-30 year old technology that rarely fails
- G-50 arm can be upgraded through the manufacturer for improved performance
- Glidecam Gold arm performed better than G-50 in direct comparison, with G-50 feeling stiff
- Both Luna and G-50X are considered safe, reliable options worth trying before purchase decision
Depends on
- Comparison based on limited direct experience - some participants had not tried both arms
- Upgrade cost mentioned as $1,000 but acknowledged as potentially outdated pricing
- Performance assessment of G-50 varies between users
- No specific technical specifications provided for direct comparison
- Alternative arms mentioned (Steadyrig Silver Spring, Sachtler Artemis ACT2, G-50X, Glidecam Gold) without detailed evaluation
