Maintaining camera slider rigs during extended periods of continuous or long-term setup
15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.
What the thread found
- Slider rigs with mounted cameras and accessories can remain assembled for months without problems if properly maintained.
- Fasteners and screws on the top stage should be checked regularly for tightness during extended setup periods.
- The gimbal bearing should be cleaned and inspected periodically to prevent wear and degradation.
- The slider arm components should be cleaned and inspected as part of regular maintenance.
- Storing the slider at its lowest height position and covering it when not in use helps preserve the rig during extended deployments.
Depends on
- The experience described involved specific equipment including a Sony HD camera, LCD prompter, and focus system on an Artemis sled, which may not represent all slider configurations.
- No specific failure modes or damage types were documented from the long-term use.
- The maintenance intervals suggested were general guidance rather than manufacturer specifications.
- Daily inspection and proper storage procedures were followed, so results may not apply to neglected rigs.
