Camera plate and Wave falling from Artemis Top Stage during transport despite locked safety pin—orientation and wear of retention mechanism

Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.

What the thread found

  • When carrying the sled nearly horizontal, the camera plate can slip from the Top Stage if its slot for the safety pin is positioned on the same side as the quick-release coupling rather than opposite to it.
  • The plate must be inserted in the correct orientation, with the retention slot on the side away from the coupling.
  • A safety pin that protrudes only 1–2 mm no longer secures the plate effectively; it must be pressed fully into position by hand to function.
  • Clamping force at the coupling can be adjusted via a small hex-key screw on the side of the quick-release mechanism.
  • Higher-quality mounting plates, such as those from GPI, incorporate a center stop that prevents slippage; manufacturing tolerances and anodizing thickness affect fit.

Depends on

  • Plate retention depends on correct orientation during installation, wear state of the safety pin, and clamping force adjustment of the coupling.
