Fiber disc and retaining ring failure on Steadicam® Zephyr/A-30 arm during pre-flight inspection.
What the thread found
- According to manufacturer support, the defect affects only the fiber disc and retaining ring.
- Multiple identical failures occurred on Zephyr/A-30 arms within one month; a service technician suspected a change in bearing or parts quality in newer arms (identifiable by engraving).
- Regular inspection of equipment before deployment is essential regardless of manufacturer.
- Even PRO arms require occasional service, including over-torqued spring canisters and rod-end bearing wear at the socket block; a solid socket block can address the latter issue.
Depends on
- The quality variance may be specific to certain production batches or periods of the Zephyr/A-30 line.
