Replacing green tube monitor on Provid steadicam with LCD monitor
18 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.
What the thread found
- Green CRT monitors were originally designed to provide high contrast visibility in direct sunlight conditions
- LCD monitors with 900 nits brightness are sufficient for shooting in direct sunlight, making the older green CRT design less necessary
- The Artemis bracket can be used as a mounting solution to retain the original high contrast CRT monitor on the sled
- Multiple LCD monitor options have become standard choices for steadicam operators, including those from different manufacturers
Depends on
- Discussion from 2008, technology has likely evolved since then
- Practical comparison between specific monitor models not fully detailed
- No confirmation provided on whether a direct mod exists to replace the Provid green tube with a Transvideo LCD
