Financing options for steadicam equipment acquisition

16 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.

What the thread found

  • Steadicam rigs can potentially be leased through manufacturer partnerships, specialized leasing companies, or through independent financial institutions such as banks.
  • Some manufacturers and equipment vendors offer lease or financing programs for steadicam systems.
  • The complete steadicam setup costs significantly more than just the core components of sled, vest, and arm, as additional expenses include cables, transmitters, follow focus systems, and other necessary accessories.
  • Local and regional banks may offer more flexible lease or business loan terms than national institutions and may work with borrowers to resolve documentation issues.
  • Leasing companies often have minimum purchase value thresholds and may be reluctant to include low-value items under approximately 750 to 1000 currency units in lease agreements, requiring operators to purchase small accessories out-of-pocket.
  • Business loans can fund equipment purchases and may allow the purchase of used gear, giving borrowers flexibility in how they allocate funds within the loan amount.
  • Financial debt for equipment acquisition introduces stress and potential work distractions that operators should carefully weigh against the benefits of ownership.

Depends on

  • Information is from 2010 and manufacturer financing options may have changed.
  • Leasing availability appears to be country-specific, with some programs limited to German operators.
  • The specific financing options mentioned for manufacturers like Tiffen and MK-V are not confirmed to currently exist.
  • Recommendations about local bank flexibility are based on individual experience rather than systematic comparison.
  • The advice assumes operators have sufficient credit history and business documentation to qualify for financing.
