Practical experience with the Sachtler Artemis Trinity stabilizer prototype and production model

Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.

What the thread found

  • The joystick control for the tilt axis improved between the prototype and the final product shown at IBC 2015, making it easier to maintain consistent headroom during single-shot sequences.
  • Direct mechanical connection between the sled and pan axis causes unintended pan movements when using a horizontal sled in mid mode due to low inertia.
  • Twitchy panning movements occurred during normal operation of the prototype version.
  • The Trinity allows camera movement from low to high mode without additional stabilization equipment, enabling shots like pulling focus from outside a window to interior spaces or moving underneath obstacles and back up.
  • The Trinity does not have the weight limitation of comparable systems, allowing it to work with most camera configurations.
  • Pan speed performance is good.
  • The final production model is shorter and lighter than the prototype, improving controllability and usability.
  • Electronic damping of the pan axis could further improve stability compared to purely mechanical control.

Depends on

  • Feedback is based on a prototype version and early production model; improvements were made between iterations.
  • The discussion includes untested suggestions about electronic pan axis control that were not implemented.
  • Whether mechanical reversal of tilt and roll axes would resolve connection issues between sled and pan remains theoretical.
