Guidelines for presenting Steadicam operating work in a demo reel
14 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.
What the thread found
- Footage showing the operator themselves working should be removed from a professional demo reel, as it can make the work appear amateurish to potential clients who are familiar with the equipment
- Repeating the same shots or returning to footage from identical projects should be avoided in a demo reel
- A Steadicam demo reel should be kept to approximately three minutes in length to maintain viewer attention, as longer reels risk losing the attention of potential clients
- A strong demo reel should showcase the best quality work available rather than attempting to demonstrate range across many different shots
Depends on
- The feedback relates specifically to demo reel presentation rather than actual operating technique
- The advice comes from forum discussion rather than industry-wide standards documentation
- Only two individuals provided feedback on this particular reel
