The 12G-SDI ports on the ARRI ALEXA 35 feature a protection circuit that disables the SDI outputs for approximately 5–10 minutes if connectors are inserted or removed in the wrong sequence.
According to the 12G protocol standard (and ARRI's guidance), the correct procedure is to connect 12G-SDI cables last when powering up and disconnect them first when powering down, rather than shutting everything down first.
Cables that are not 12G-rated or insufficiently shielded may contribute to triggering the protection mechanism.
Small SDI breakout or protection boxes are available to stabilize and protect 12G-SDI ports; operator monitors typically do not require the full 12G bandwidth.
The ARRI ALEXA Mini LF does not have 12G ports but supports Dual-Link SDI.
To mount the camera inverted on a sled so it does not sit approximately 4 inches above the Wave, the Apex Universal Stabilizer Plate can be inserted into the BUD-1 interface and provides mounting points on its underside, sitting roughly 1/4 inch lower than the ARRI SAM-6.
Rental houses often supply proprietary SAM or Steadicam® mounting plates as alternatives to the ARRI factory solutions.
